Miles has been working for Brightspot since November 2009.

Recently, Rose sat down with Miles De Feyter, one of the longest-tenured employees at Brightspot, formerly Perfect Sense. During their conversation, Rose and Miles discussed his transition from an engineer to a technical manager, his ongoing relationship with Healthgrades, and the commitment to delivering an excellent product that all team members share at Brightspot.

How long have you been you working for Brightspot? What brought you here?
I am coming up on my 7th anniversary! I had been at AOL for 5 or 6 years and wanted a change of pace from a larger company to a smaller company that was doing the same type of work.

Tell me about your career path. How did you wind up in your role as a technical manager?
My role as a technical manager grew out of working with the same client, Healthgrades, over a span of multiple years. I started by leading a project from a technical engineer standpoint and developing strong relationships with the client. Over time, my role transitioned into managing both the client relationship and the larger team.

How do you think Brightspot best benefits our clients?
I think Brightspot benefits our clients because it is super flexible and easily scalable.

What traits or characteristics make someone successful in your position?
The most important trait is caring. Caring that we deliver a good product will get you most of the way there.

You have been a central part of our work with Healthgrades and have overseen many different projects. What has been your favorite?
I guess it would have to be Health Coaches, my first project. At the time it was a reach for my skill set, which was a fun challenge. It become a very successful project for Healthgrades and has won awards for being helpful to the public.

Last year, you participated in one of our mission events the Unified Snowboard race in Aspen. What was it like racing down the mountain with a Special Olympics athlete as your teammate?
It was awesome! My teammate had so much passion for life and everything we were doing. It was invigorating to be around him. His energy was contagious.

Besides the people, what is your favorite part about working for Brightspot?
It comes back to that idea of caring about the product. At Brightspot, you are assigned to a project and get to see it through its entire life cycle, which allows you to have a say in the final product. You're invited to raise your hand and share your thoughts. It's more than just showing up for a job, you actively participate in doing great work and can take pride in the final product.

Where would you go in a time machine?
I would go to the future so I can see flying cars and hover boards.

What was the last concert you attended?
I saw Soldiers of Jah Army, a reggae band, at Wolf Trap in June.

What are your favorite sport teams?
Washington Capitals, Go Caps!
