World Games: Healthy Athletes and Seoul

Korea 2013 - Seoul

We woke up to rain on Friday, and many of the outdoor events were canceled. Andrew, Karl, Cecily, and Jenny decided to leave for Seoul (3 hours away) in the morning. Andrew was a fabulous tour guide, taking us on the subway to Myeongdong where we walked around and enjoyed the city and the culture.

Holly stayed in Alpensia for the morning, and she and Caitlin stopped by to view the Young Athletes program and a demonstration of the Michael Phelps Foundation's im program at the indoor water park. The multi-phase program includes a learn to swim component, which the Foundation has begun to implement for Special Olympics. By the 2015 world summer games in LA, the Foundation aims to have touched every Special Olympics swimmer worldwide by training trainers and athletes directly.

We all met in Seoul for dinner, and were lucky to have Loretta Claiborne, Special Olympics athlete and Board Member, join us for some great conversation.
