How long have you worked for Brightspot? What brought you here?
I have been at Brightspot for a little over two years now. I was brought to Brightspot because a friend of mine from high school was building out the business development team over here. He was just telling me what a great place it was to work, about how great the people were, and a little bit about the product and the space. It sounded like a really good opportunity that I didn’t want to pass up. So, I’ve been here for two years and the rest is history.
Can you tell me more about your role as Senior Business Development Representative? What is a typical day like for you?
We are essentially the outbound function of the Sales team and we handle inbounds as well. What that entails is doing a lot of research on companies and figuring out what they’re currently on in terms of a CMS and who their main stakeholders might be. In a typical day we do a lot of work in terms of building lists for outreach, so it’s a lot of emailing and cold calling but also research as well. We have to make sure that we’re finding the right people and the appropriate companies to reach out to as well.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job here at Brightspot?
I would say facing rejection is the most challenging part because a lot of the time you’re either not finding the right people right away and it does take some persistence. Plus everybody’s always the nicest after you cold call them, so learning how to deal with that was probably the biggest challenge for me. However, after doing it for a while, it’s just something I’m used to now.
How have you grown professionally since starting at Brightspot?
I have definitely grown in learning how to interact with executive members of companies, whether it’s internal or external. I came from a much larger organization where we didn’t really have access to the C-suite or executive people at the company and it was definitely a big change coming to Brightspot. I’ve gained an understanding of how they work and how to work with them and also how to speak with them. Learning how to do that with companies that we’re prospecting has definitely been my biggest form of growth.
What opportunities are you most excited about for our company from a sales standpoint?
I think Michael Weaver (Director, Business Development & Pipeline Growth) and Warren Schuman (Chief Revenue Officer) have done a great job starting to build and revamp the outbound function of the Sales team. I’m very excited about how our marketing team has been reaching out to manufacturing companies and biotech manufacturing as well. These are two industries that we’ve seen a lot of early success with and I’m excited to start to see those opportunities come in more. I think it’s just going to be a really strong 2026 for Brightspot.
Besides the people, what is your favorite part about working at Brightspot?
I do love the company tickets. I’m a big D.C. sports fan, so that’s a huge perk. I also really enjoy how every day is different. There is always a different challenge and one day to the next is never the same, especially in this role where you can have a lot of success very quickly. There are waves to it, though, and Sales is all about ups and downs. Being able to have a team around you that can support you through that as well is so important.
If you could pick another role to try within Brightspot for one week, which would it be and why?
I would probably do something in Product. I just got back from New York with Ben London (VP, Customer Engagement & Product Delivery) and Chris Huston (Principal, Product Delivery). Their roles seem really interesting, with how they’re working with NBC and the relationships they’ve built through Golf Channel and things like that. I think that team would be interesting to work for, especially just with how much they’re able to work with AI and their level of knowledge of the platform was very inspiring, too. So I think it would probably be something over there.
What are your favorite activities or hobbies to do outside of the office?
I love to play basketball. I play in two different leagues now and so I’m playing about twice a week. I keep meaning to get out with the Brightspot group, but it’s a little early in the morning for me. I like to golf as well, and I enjoy traveling also. I just got back from Raleigh and New York.
What is one thing you think people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m one of six kids, which always kind of shocks people. It’s totally shaped who I am today. So yeah, that’s definitely a fun fact!
If you could have any superpower, which would you like to have? Why?
I think being able to either teleport or read minds. Teleportation just because you could be anywhere instantaneously and it would make the whole travel thing really easy. As for reading minds, even from a work perspective, being able to understand what people are thinking right away would save me a lot of time.
