On the Record with Rose: Meredith Rodkey

image of Brightspot employee Meredith Rodkey

Meredith has been working for Brightspot since August 2010.

This week, Rose went on the record with Meredith Rodkey, a product manager for Brightspot, formerly Perfect Sense, who oversees projects for our partners at Healthgrades and Crown Media, among others. Fall Out Boy's number one fan, Meredith and Rose discussed the life-changing Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and the outstanding candy collection at Brightspot's Reston headquarters.

How long have you been working for Brightspot?
I started at Brightspot in August 2010, so almost 5 years.

Where did you work prior to Brightspot?
I worked at AOL on home pages team from 2003-2010 as an editor and producer.

Describe a unique challenge or project you have worked on at Brightspot?
I feel like they are all unique! U.S. News & World Report was one of the more challenging projects. They have been around for so long and have deep history of news reporting -- that makes their processes very specific and their standards very rigorous. Meeting their editorial requirements was challenging, but we got there.

How do you think Brightspot best benefits our clients?
I think it is fast and flexible. Clients are always surprised how quickly we can make something that is easy for them to publish and manage day in and day out.

What is a day like the life of a product manager?
Meetings! There are a lot of meetings. Communication is the most important part of my job. I always joke that my job here is to make people agree with each other. It's all about keeping people on the same page, building toward the same goals.

What piece of advice would you give a recent graduate preparing to start his/her career?
Take on every of task you can and really embrace it. Learn as much as you can from every little assignment. Just because you majored in one field doesn't mean you won't find new interests and passions after graduation.

What is your favorite part about working at Brightspot?
The people. I know everyone says that! Also, the candy, everybody has really good candy!

Where is your favorite place to eat lunch at the Reston Town Center?
It varies, but right now its BRB. I am obsessed with their chicken burger, and they have the Coca-Cola freestyle machine, which I've been getting a lot lately!

What are your favorite activities or hobbies?
I like to work out, drink wine, and spend time with my husband and daughter.

What was the last movie you saw?
This is embarrassing! 22 Jump Street is the only movie that I have seen the whole way through in the past year. I have been halfway through Gone Girl since New Years.

What was the last concert you attended?
Fall Out Boy at Merriweather Post Pavilion this past summer. Actually, the past four concerts I went to were Fall Out Boy concerts. I have a Fall Out Boy problem!
