Editing an editorial content type

This topic explains how to edit an editorial content type in Brightspot.

Before editing an editorial content type, you should always check to see if it is in use in any assets or by other editorial content types. This ensures that any changes you make do not cause any undesirable results on existing assets.

To review an editorial content type's usage:

  1. Click menu > Admin > Content Types.
  2. In the Content Types widget, located in the left navigation bar, select the editorial content type whose usage you want to check.
  3. Click the References tab.

  4. Under Usages, click the provided link to see a list of assets that use this editorial content type.
  5. Under References, click the name of the Content Type to view how it is used by that editorial content type.
Any changes you make to an editorial content type will affect all of the items listed on the References tab.

To edit an editorial content type:

  1. Click menu > Admin > Content Types.
  2. In the Content Types widget, click the editorial content type you want to modify.
  3. In the Name field, enter a new name for this content type.
  4. From the Sites list, select the site to which this content type applies, or leave blank to apply it to all sites.
  5. Change the icon. For details, see Creating an editorial content type.
  6. Toggle Embedded on to allow this editorial content type to be embedded in another content type, or toggle it off to prevent it from being embedded in another content type.
  7. To add a field, under Items, click add_circle_outline, and select one of the field types.
  8. To remove a field, click remove.
Attempting to edit an editorial content type that is used by published content generates a warning message at the top of the page.

Continuing to remove a field from an existing editorial content type may result in lost content. For example, an editorial content type Book Reviews has a field Author. If you remove that field, all existing assets based on Book Reviews will no longer include the field Author; editors do not see that field in Brightspot, and visitors no longer see that field in the live site.
  9. Rearrange the fields by dragging them into the order you want them to appear in the content edit form.
  10. Click Save.
