Doubling down on digital transformation

lightbulb showing digital transformation concept

Companies are doubling down on digital transformation to remain competitive as we edge our way beyond pandemic uncertainty and toward some semblance of the "new normal."

A recent Deloitte digital transformation survey showed that 69% of the digital transformation leaders globally that were surveyed planned to increase their financial commitments to digital transformation in response to the pandemic. On average, respondents planned to spend US$12.6 million (or nearly 0.6% of their annual revenue) on digital transformation over the next 12 months—a 15% increase from the US$10.9 million that they spent over the prior 12 months.

Leading reasons organizations say they are investing in digital transformation include enabling faster innovation, needing to modernize and becoming more resilient.

Transforming with a modern CMS

If you aren’t already doing so, now is the time to reassess your own ecosystem and ensure your organization has the right tools and tech to propel digitization efforts forward. Is your tech supporting innovation? Are you able to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy? Are your processes streamlined and efficient? If any of these questions make you pause, it might be time to consider revamping and upgrading your tech stack.

Brightspot understands that legacy systems often can’t adapt to meet today’s fast-paced environment—an environment that demands creativity and agility, that doesn’t wait for you to catch up, and that’s constantly pushing you (and your competitors) forward.

Let’s look at how a modern CMS solution supports the reasons Deloitte’s report uncovered in terms of why organizations are investing in digital transformation.

Enabling faster innovation
Agility and speed are easy to talk about but can be difficult to obtain. Today, however, it’s important that you move your road map forward fast so you can reach your “year two” goals in year one. A CMS that allows you to grow quickly will, in turn, allow you to outpace your competition and stay ahead of the pack.
Needing to modernize
If your current CMS is a decade old, chances are it isn’t doing you or your business any favors these days. Instead of applying small fixes to help your legacy CMS limp along, it may be time for you to make a significant change: to upgrade to a modern CMS. This can save you time in the long run, attract new talent and remove existing pain points from your day-to-day operations.
Becoming more resilient
The past 18 months, especially, reinforced that things can change in an instant. The reality is, businesses don’t know today what they’ll need tomorrow, one week, one month or a year from now. A CMS solution that prioritizes flexibility through features like seamless integrations helps businesses remain agile and resilient when they need to make critical changes fast.

A digital transformation success story

The benefits mentioned above are what led the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), a technical professional society, to partner with Brightspot. With Brightspot, SPE migrated five existing SPE magazine brands and created a simplified, flexible CMS in under four months.

The society’s legacy CMS was inefficient, inflexible and unstable, preventing publishing teams from working independently from the IT department as needed, taking up valuable resources and time on both sides.

Designed by publishers and developers with an extensible architecture, Brightspot provided SPE a new front end using an out-of-the-box Brightspot theme adapted to SPE branding guidelines to ensure the multiple magazines could control their own brand identities.

This simplified article creation for authors by allowing publishing teams to work independently with streamlined workflows and publishing features, and it now provides flexibility within the sites to customize the look and feel of each page to more easily cater to SPE’s audiences.

Faster innovation, modern technology, and a focus on resiliency is what Brightspot is all about. Transformation isn’t an obscure concept with us—we make it a reality. We understand your current challenges, and we’re here to help you prepare for any future opportunities.
