Creating a live blog


A live blog is a container for live blog posts. You must first publish a live blog before editors can post comments to it.

Tip
If necessary, create and upload images you will use in the live blog. For details, see Image.


To create a live blog:

  1. In the header, click add.
  2. From the Create list, select Live Blog.
  3. Using the following table as a reference, complete the fields as needed.
  4. Complete your site's workflow and publish the live blog.

Live blog fields

Click each tab below to see a description of the associated fields.

FieldDescription
HeadlineEnter a headline. This headline is visible to the visitors to your site.
SubheadlineEnter a subheadline. This subheadline is visible to the visitors to your site.
URL SlugThis field, by default, is auto-populated by a Title, Name, or Headline field, and becomes part of the asset's URL.

Auto-populated slugs are lowercase, have diacritics removed, and any symbols or spaces are replaced with -.

You can modify the URL Slug field if necessary.
AuthorsSelect one or more authors. The authors are not visible to visitors to your site.


For information about creating an author, see Author.
LeadSelect a gallery, image, or video that appears after the asset's headline and before its body. Your selection is visible to visitors to your site.

If you select an image, you can apply a focus point, cropping, and resizing that override any settings on the image itself. For more information, see Image editing.
What You Need To Know

Use the rich-text editor to provide a summary of the event. Text in this field is visible to visitors to your site.

  • Click One-Off to make an embedded What You Need To Know body.
  • Click Shared to search for an existing What You Need To Know body, or to create a new one.
BodyUse the rich-text editor to include text, lists, images, and links to other assets. Text in this field is visible to visitors to your site.

SectionSelect the sections associated with this asset. This selection is not visible to your visitors.

Secondary SectionsSelect one or more sections. uses secondary sections to populate dynamic lists.
TagsSelect the tags associated with this asset. This selection is not visible to visitors to your site.

EmbargoSelect a date and time before which you cannot publish the asset, or select Indefinitely to prevent publication indefinitely. (You can move the asset through a workflow, and schedule it for publication any time on or after this date.) This field becomes read-only after you publish the asset.
Live Event

Select one of the following:

  • Automatic—Automatically retains the live blog's live status.

    • In the Hours Before Blog Is Not Live field, add a number between 1–24, which represents the number of hours after which the live blog will no longer display as Live .
  • Manual—Manually sets an Expiration Date, after which the live blog will no longer display as live.
SponsorSelect the sponsor associated with this asset. This selection is not visible to the visitors to your site.

FieldDescription
TitleText appearing in the asset's <title> tag. Brightspot automatically populates this field from data on the Main tab, and and you can override this as needed by entering a new title.
Suppress SEO Display NameIf toggled on, your site's name will not appear in the <title> tag and subsequently in search results.
DescriptionText appearing in the asset's <meta name="description"> tag. automatically populates this field from data on the Main tab, and you can override this as needed by entering a new description.
RobotsText appearing in the item’s <meta name="robots"> tag.

Focus Keyword displays an analysis of the keyword in the Focus Keyword Density field.
Focus Keyword DensityIndicates the number of times the Title and Description fields contain the Focus Keyword as a percentage. For example—

  • The focus word is content.
  • There are 50 words in the Title and Description fields combined.
  • content appears only once in both fields.
In this scenario, the focus keyword density is (1 ÷ 50) × 100 = 2.00.



As a best practice, use a focus keyword in your Title and Description fields that have a density of 3.00 or greater.



Note: Computing keyword densities requires toggling off Disable SEO Recommendations.
Disable SEO RecommendationsToggle on to disable computation of density values for a word you type in the Focus Keyword field.

AMP DisabledToggle on to disable generation of an AMP version of this asset.

FieldDescription
Hide DescriptionToggle on to hide the descriptions of the assets contained in the list module. For example, toggling this setting on displays the Headline of an article, but hides the Description of an article contained in the list module.
Current Posts CountsOverrides the default number of posts displayed on a live blog asset. For instance, setting this value to 2 displays the two most recent blog posts, and setting it to 10 displays the ten most recent.

FieldDescription
Primary Media TypeSelect the primary media type of this article, either None, Audio, Gallery, Text, Video. This selection determines how the asset is treated when used as a promo. For example, if you select Video, the promo image will have a play arrow overlaid on top of it.

FieldDescription
Change FrequencySelect an option from the list to denote how frequently the page is likely to change. This value provides general information to search engines and may not correlate exactly to how often search engines crawl this asset. See the <changefreq> tag definition in Sitemaps XML format.
PriorityEnter a value to designate this asset's priority over other URLs on your site. Valid values are 0.0 to 1.0. This allows you to relay to search engines which pages you deem most important for crawlers. For more information, see the <priority> tag definition in Sitemaps XML format.

RSS Settings


FieldDescription
Disable FeedToggle on to remove this asset's RSS feed. (A visitor's RSS reader may retain a previously retrieved feed.)
Render Full ContentToggle on to deliver an asset's entire text—not just the title or headline—to the RSS feed as plain text.
Enabled Feed Item TypesSelect the content types to which these settings apply, or leave blank to apply the settings to all content types. For example, if you are publishing a section, you can select Article in this field so that these settings apply only to articles with a section.
