In This Guide

When you add images to Brightspot, you and other editors can use those images in articles, blog posts, or galleries. For example, if you shot a stunning image of a solar eclipse, you can add it to Brightspot so that other editors, writing articles about astronomy, can use that image.

You can upload images to Brightspot from your computer, or you can link to them over the Internet.


Adding an image from your computer

To upload an image from your computer

  1. In the header, click add.
  2. From the Create list, select Image. A content edit page appears.
  3. From the File list, select New Upload. A Choose button appears.
  4. Click Choose, and navigate to the image you want to upload to Brightspot. (You can also drag and drop files onto the field.)
  5. If your version of Brightspot includes Assignment Desk, you can associate the image with pitches and assignments by doing the following:
    1. Click more_horiz, and select Assignment Desk.
    2. From the Pitches list, select the pitches with which you want to associated the image.
    3. From the Assignments list, select the assignments with which you want to associate the image.
  6. Using the following table as a reference, enter settings for the image.
  7. Complete your site’s workflow and publish the image.

Brightspot imports the image, and it appears in the Image editing form.

CreditPhotographer, artist, or agency who created the image. Brightspot can extract an existing credit from the image.
SourceOrganization from which you acquired the image, often a web service, museum, or syndication. Brightspot can extract an existing source from the image.
Copyright noticePerson or organization claiming the image's intellectual property. Brightspot can extract an existing copyright notice from the image.
Date TakenDate image was created. Brightspot can extract an existing date from the image.
Tags​​Tags​​ associated with the image.
Metadata
KeywordsKeywords associated with the image. Editors can search for the image using the keywords you provide.
LocationLocation where image was taken. Brightspot can extract an existing location from the image.
Overrides
(various)Fields pertaining to front-end settings different from the next level up in the ​content hierarchy​​. For more information, see ​Setting the Layout Overrides for sections and assets​.
SEO
(various)Fields pertaining to ​search engine optimization​​.
Translations
LocaleLocale​​ from which the image's text is translated. For example, if you select French (Canada), translators assume the text in the image is Canadian French.

Adding an image from the internet

To add an image from the internet:

  1. In the header, click add.
  2. From the Create list, select Image. A content edit page appears.
  3. From the File list, select New URL. A text field appears.

  4. In the text field, type or paste the image’s URL.
  5. Complete your site’s workflow and publish the image.

Brightspot imports the image.

Viewing an image's information

To view an image's information:

  1. Open the image in the content edit page.
  2. Above the image, click more_horiz. A menu appears.
  3. Click one of the menu items described in the following table.
Menu item
Description
Image Colors
Displays a stacked bar chart of dominant colors within the image.
Source Data
Displays metadata, such as original height and width, resolution, and date taken. The available metadata depends on the device or application that created the image.
Original Image
Displays the original image as it was added to Brightspot.
Resized Images
Displays a list of possible sizes and crops Brightspot applies to the image in published content.


Editing an image

  1. Open the image in the content edit page.
  2. Above the image, click ​brush.

    Brightspot opens the image in the edit form.

  3. Click Edit, and edit the image using the controls described in the following table.
  4. Click Done to close the image editing form.
  5. Complete your site’s workflow and publish the image.

Downloading an image

To download an image:

  1. Search for and open the image in the content edit page.
  2. In the editorial toolbar, click more_horiz, and from the menu, select Download This Image. The Download Options widget appears.
  3. From the Format list, select one of the available options.
  4. Click Download. (Your browser downloads the image in a different tab, so you may need to disable the popup blocker for the Brightspot server.)
  5. To view information about the download, in the original tab click View Details.
