Adding modules to a layout


This topic explains how to add modules to the layout of your assets at the global level, site level, section level, and asset level. For more information on these distinctions, see Module placement.

Adding modules to a layout at the global level



To add modules to a layout at the global level:

  1. Click menu> Admin > Sites & Settings > Sites > Global.
  2. Click search, located to the left of more_horiz, and type Layout.
  3. Scroll down to the Above, Aside, and Below lists for the module’s position. For an illustration of these positions, see Above, Aside, and Below layout blocks.
  4. From one of the drop-down lists, select one of the available options. For an explanation of these options, see Determining the content of a layout block.
  5. Do one of the following:
    1. Click add_circle_outline to open the module picker, select a module to insert into a layout block.

      Tip
      You can use the module picker's search field to quickly find a specific module or style. For details, see Searching for shared modules in the module picker.
    2. Click search to open the content picker, and select a shared module to insert into a layout block.
  6. Repeat step 5 to add additional modules to a layout block.
  7. Click Save.

Adding modules to a layout at the site level



To add modules to a layout at the site level:

  1. Click menu > Admin > Sites & Settings.
  2. In the Sites list, select the site to which you would like to add a module to the layout.
  3. Click search, located to the left of more_horiz, and type Layout.
  4. Scroll down to the Above, Aside, and Below lists for the module’s position. For an illustration of these positions, see Above, Aside, and Below layout blocks.
  5. From one of the drop-down lists, select one of the available options. For an explanation of these options, see Determining the content of a layout block.
  6. Do one of the following:
    1. Click add_circle_outline to open the module picker, and select a module to insert into a layout block.

      Tip
      You can use the module picker's search field to quickly find a specific module or style. For details, see Searching for shared modules in the module picker.
    2. Click search to open the content picker, and select a shared module to insert into a layout block.
  7. Repeat step 6 to add additional modules to a layout block.
  8. Click Save.

Adding modules to a layout at the section level



To add modules to a layout at the section level:

  1. Search for and open the asset to which you want to add a module to the layout, or create a new asset. In this case, the asset must be a section, blog, or podcast. For details, see Module placement.
  2. Select the Overrides tab.
  3. Expand Layout Overrides.
  4. Scroll down to the Above, Aside, and Below lists for the module’s position. For an illustration of these positions, see Above, Aside, and Below layout blocks.
  5. From one of the drop-down lists, select one of the available options. For an explanation of these options, see Determining the content of a layout block.
  6. Do one of the following:
    1. Click add_circle_outline to open the module picker, and select a module to insert into a layout block.

    2. Click search to open the content picker, and select a shared module to insert into a layout block.
  7. Repeat step 6 to add additional modules to a layout block.
  8. Complete your site's workflow and publish the asset.

Adding modules to layout at the asset level



To add modules to a layout at the asset level:

  1. Search for and open the asset to which you want to add a module to the layout, or create a new asset.
  2. Select the Overrides tab.
  3. Expand Layout Overrides.
  4. Scroll down to the Above, Aside, and Below lists for the module’s position. For an illustration of these positions, see Above, Aside, and Below layout blocks.
  5. From one of the drop-down lists, select one of the available options. For an explanation of these options, see Determining the content of a layout block.
  6. Do one of the following:
    1. Click add_circle_outline to open the module picker, and select a module to insert into a layout block.
