Embedding enhancements in the rich-text editor
You can embed enhancements into the rich-text editor. For example, if you are writing a story about a traffic accident, you can embed images or videos pertaining to the incident.
Images can be embedded within text directly from the rich-text editor.

To embed an image:
- Place your cursor within the text where you would like the image to be placed.
- Click and select Image from the available choices.
Select to use either a Shared or One-Off Image.
- If you select Shared, click and locate the shared image in the content picker.
If you select One-Off Image:
In the File field, select whether the image is a New Upload or is using a New URL.
For New Upload, follow the instructions as outlined in Adding an image from your computer.
For New URL, follow the instructions as outlined in Adding an image from the Internet.
- Set the Alt Text for the one-off image.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

Galleries can be embedded directly in the text from the rich-text editor.

To embed a gallery:
- Place your cursor within the text where you would like the gallery to be placed.
Click and select Gallery from the available choices.
The Edit Gallery widget appears.
- In the Title field, enter the gallery's title.
In the Items field, select Advanced, Dynamic, or Use Existing Gallery.

If you selected Advanced or Dynamic you can select how the elements of your gallery appear in the widget. You can choose from Grid View or List View.
Grid View displays the images in the Edit Gallery widget in preview mode in a side-by-side grid.
List View displays the image names in the Edit Gallery Widget stacked in a list.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

When embedding an advanced gallery you have two options how to select the images for the gallery. You can Upload Files or Add Image.
- The Upload Files option allows you to select files from your computer/network drive and upload them into Brightspot for use in your gallery.
- The Add Image option allows you to select images for your gallery that have been previously uploaded into Brightspot.
To embed an advanced gallery to the rich-text editor:
- In the Items field, select Advanced.
You have the choice to Upload Files or Add Image.
If you clicked Upload Files, you have two choices available: Choose Files or Choose A Folder.
- Choose Files allows you to individually select the files from within a folder to be uploaded into the gallery.
- Choose A Folder uploads all of the files contained within the selected folder.
- Complete the additional fields that are standard for any image upload for each file uploaded.
- Click Upload.
If you selected Add Image, a placeholder image appears.
- Click to open the content picker.
- Enter your search criteria and locate the images you want for the gallery.
Select the desired images and close the content picker.
The selected images are displayed in the preview form.
Edit gallery form- If you need to make any changes to the images or their associated data, click on that image to open an edit window.
- Once you have completed editing the image data, click Back, located in the upper left corner of the page, to return to the Edit Gallery widget.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

To embed a dynamic gallery to the rich-text editor:
In the Items field, select Dynamic.
The Edit Gallery widget appears.
- In the Items Per Page field, enter the number of items you would like in this gallery.
In the Time Period field, enter the number of days for content to be published within in order to be included in this gallery.
For example, enter
7
to have images published within the last seven days included in your gallery.Click to add a tag to this gallery. Adding tags is how Brightspot locates and populates your gallery with the desired content.
- Click to search for the desired tags in the content picker.
- Click the tag(s) that you want to add to the gallery from the list of tags in the content picker. Each time you click a tag, a new line is generated.
- To return to the content picker to add additional tags, click > again.
In the Sort field, select how you want the items in your gallery to be ordered. You can select from Newest, Oldest, Page Views, or Relevance.
- Newest—Puts the image with the most recent publication date first in the gallery.
- Oldest—Puts the image with the oldest publication date first in the gallery.
- Page Views—Puts the image with the most page views first in the gallery.
- Relevance—Puts the image that most closely matches the tags selected first in the gallery.
The Pinned Items field allows you to upload or select images that are permanently pinned to the beginning of your gallery, regardless of your settings above. You have two choices: Upload Files or Add Image.
If you selected Upload Files, you have two choices available: Choose Files or Choose A Folder.
- Choose Files allows you to individually select the files from within a folder to be uploaded into the gallery.
- Choose A Folder uploads all of the files contained within the selected folder.
- Complete the additional fields that are standard for any image upload for each file uploaded.
- Click Upload.
If you selected Add Image, a placeholder image appears.
- Click to open the content picker.
- Enter your search criteria and locate the images you want for the gallery.
Select the desired images and close the search window.
The selected images are displayed in the preview form.
- If you need to make any changes to the images or their associated data, click on that image to open an edit window.
- Once you have completed editing the image data, click Back, located in the upper left corner of the page, to return to the Edit Gallery widget.

- Click Save & Close.

To embed an existing gallery in the rich-text editor:
In the Items field, select Use Existing Gallery.
The Edit Gallery widget appears.
- Click to open the content picker.
- Search for and click the desired gallery in the content picker.
- If needed, click to open the gallery in an edit window and make any changes needed.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

You can embed playlists into your assets directly from the rich-text editor.

To embed a playlist:
- Place your cursor in the text where you would like the playlist to be placed.
- Click and select Playlist from the available choices.
Expand the Playlist field and choose one of the available playlists, or select Create New to create a new playlist to add.
If you don't see the playlist you are looking for, click to open the content picker where you can search for the desired playlist.
Select the desired playlist- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

You can embed videos directly into your assets using the rich-text editor.

To embed a video:
- Place your cursor in the text where you would like the video to be placed.
- Click and select Video from the available choices.
- Click to open the content picker to search for the desired video.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.
You can add several types of modules to your assets via the rich-text editor.
To embed a module:
- Place the cursor in the text where you would like to place the module.
- Click and select Module from the available choices. The Edit Module widget appears.

You can embed a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) into your assets via the rich-text editor.

To embed an FAQ:
- Expand the Module field and select FAQ.
- Enter a Title for the FAQ.
- Toggle the Hide Title field on or off to hide or display the FAQ title. By default, this field is toggled off which causes the title to be displayed.
- Enter a short Description of the FAQ (such as the purpose of the FAQs).
Click and select Question or Subheading.
If you selected Question:
- In the Question field, enter one of your frequently asked questions.
- In the Answer field, enter the answer to that question using the rich-text editor.
Click and select Question again to add another question.
You can also select Subheading at any point while adding questions.
If you selected Subheading:
- Enter the text for the subheading in the Value field.
- Click and select Question to add a question under the newly created subheading.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.
You can embed social media content directly from the rich-text editor.
To embed social media content:
- Place your cursor within the text of the article where you would like the social media content to be placed.
Click and select Embed from the available choices.
The Edit Embed widget appears.
- Enter the URL of the social media content you want to embed.
- Set the Maximum Width in pixels that this content should occupy on the page.
- Set the Maximum Height in pixels that this content should occupy on the page.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.
You can embed pull quotes inside the body of the rich-text editor (RTE). These pull quotes are rendered within the body’s text, as in the following illustration.

To embed a pull quote:
Do one of the following:
- Position the cursor on an empty line within the text where you want the pull quote to appear.
- Highlight the text within the rich-text editor that you want to highlight as a pull quote.Creating a pull quote in the rich-text editor
- Click . The Edit Quote widget appears.
- If you highlighted the text in the RTE, that text is already populating the Quote field. If you did not highlight text, you must enter the quote manually.
- In the Attribution field, enter the name of the individual to whom the quote is attributed.
You also have the option to include an image with your pull quote. You can select a One-Off Image or a Shared image.
If you select One-Off Image, do one of the following:
- Select New Upload to choose a file from your computer/network drive to upload.
- Select New URL to enter the URL of a web-image you would like to include in the pull quote.
- Enter the Alt Text for the new image.
If you select Shared:
- Click to open the content picker.
- Choose an image that has been previously uploaded to Brightspot.
- Expand Enhancement Styles and select your Enhancement Alignment. See Enhancement alignment for more information on enhancement placement.
- Click Save & Close.

Using this method, you upload new shared media into the rich-text editor.
To embed enhancements using drag-and-drop:
- Drag a media file from your file manager into the rich-text editor. The Upload Files widget appears.
- Complete the fields for the media, and then click Upload.
There are three choices for enhancement alignment; left alignment, center alignment, and right alignment. The table below shows a sample of where the enhancement is placed within the text based on the alignment option chosen.
