Subscription plans

In This Guide

Subscription plans allow you to set up pricing plans for content that you have behind a paywall. Visitors then must purchase a subscription plan to view this content.

Setting up a subscription plan

You may want to have some, or all, of the content on your site behind a paywall that requires your visitors to have a subscription to access. You may also want to have differing tiers of subscription levels that provide more access to those visitors who purchase a higher subscription level. By setting up subscription plans in Brightspot, you can achieve this.

To add a subscription plan:

  1. Click menu > Admin > Sites & Settings.
  2. Click the name of the site to which you want to add the subscription plan.
  3. Click Front End > Access.
  4. Set the Access Substitution field to one of the following options:
    • None—No action occurs when the visitor tries to access a premium area of your site.
    • Content Substitution—This option sets the content you want to display to a visitor when the visitor tries to access a premium area of your site. This content displays in place, and the page URL does not change.
    • External Redirect—This option redirects the visitor to an external site. For instance, perhaps you use a third-party payment service to handle your subscriptions, and you direct the visitors to that external site when they try to access a premium part of your site.
    • Internal Redirect—This option redirects the viewer to an internal URL.
  5. Under Subscription Plans, click add_circle_outline to add a new subscription plan.
  6. Using the following table as a reference, enter values for the subscription plan.
  7. Click Save.

Setting the access to content for subscription plans

As you set up a subscription plan, you must specify what content or content types are available to your subscribers. There are two types of access you can set up: Individual Content Access or Tagged Content Access.

  • Individual Content Access—This option requires that you select specific assets that have been previously created within Brightspot to be available to subscribers of this subscription plan.
  • Tagged Content Access—This option requires that you select from a variety of filters to determine which content is available to subscribers of this subscription plan.

To set Individual Content Access:

  1. Click the Accesses Search field and select Individual Content Access.
  2. Under Content, click add_circle_outline to select the assets that you want to put behind the paywall for this subscription plan.
  3. In the search window that appears, select the individual assets that require this subscription plan in order to view.
